Viña del Mar, next to Valparaíso, is Chile's main beach resort, known as the 'Garden City' for its parks and avenues. It hosts the famous Viña del Mar International Song Festival.
The city
The Flower Clock, made of living flowers, is the city's symbol. Wulff Castle stands on rocks above the sea. The Quinta Vergara park has a palace and the open-air amphitheater of the song festival.
Beaches
The seafront avenue runs past beaches like Acapulco and Reñaca, popular in summer. The Pacific is cold, but the sunsets are beautiful.
A day in Viña del Mar
Viña del Mar is Valparaíso's tidy neighbor, a garden city of beaches, parks and wide avenues. Start at the Flower Clock, a giant clock made of flowers, then walk along the seafront to Wulff Castle, perched on rocks over the sea. Visit the Fonck Museum, which has a real moai statue from Easter Island at its entrance.
In the afternoon, relax on the beaches of Reñaca, or walk through the Quinta Vergara park, home to an amphitheater and a palace.
Good to know
The Viña del Mar International Song Festival in February is one of the biggest music festivals in Latin America.
The Pacific water is cold here because of the Humboldt Current, so many people prefer sunbathing to swimming.
