Córdoba, Argentina's second city, is a lively university town with a rich colonial heritage. Its Jesuit Block is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the Sierras de Córdoba hills are nearby.

The center

The Jesuit Block includes the University of Córdoba, one of the oldest in South America, and the Church of the Company of Jesus. Plaza San Martín is surrounded by the cathedral and the Cabildo. Paseo del Buen Pastor is a cultural center with fountains.

Around Córdoba

The Sierras de Córdoba have rivers, hiking and towns like Villa General Belgrano, with German heritage. Jesuit estancias around the city are also UNESCO-listed.

A day in Córdoba

Córdoba's historic center is compact and easy to walk. The Jesuit Block, a UNESCO site, includes a church, the old university and a college from the 17th century. The cathedral on Plaza San Martín mixes Baroque and colonial styles.

In the evening, go to the Güemes neighborhood, where old houses have been turned into bars and an artisan market fills the streets on weekends.

Good to know

Córdoba is Argentina's second-largest city and a big student town. The Sierras de Córdoba, an hour away, are full of small resort towns, rivers and hiking trails.

Try the local fernet with cola, the city's favorite drink, and listen to cuarteto, the local dance music.
