Medellín, in a green valley of the Andes, has transformed itself into one of the most innovative cities in Latin America. Its mild climate earns it the nickname 'City of Eternal Spring'.

The city

Botero Plaza is filled with large bronze sculptures by Fernando Botero. Comuna 13, once dangerous, is now known for its street art and outdoor escalators. The metrocable cable cars connect hillside neighborhoods with the metro.

El Poblado

El Poblado is the lively district of restaurants, bars and parks. Parque Lleras is the nightlife center. Guatapé, with its colorful town and giant rock, is a popular day trip.

A day in Medellín

Ride the metro and the Metrocable, cable cars that connect hillside neighborhoods to the city, for a bird's-eye view of the valley. Visit Comuna 13, once one of the most dangerous areas, now famous for its outdoor escalators, street art and hip-hop tours.

In the afternoon, see the Botero Plaza, with dozens of bronze sculptures by the artist, and the Museum of Antioquia. In the evening, El Poblado and Laureles are full of restaurants and bars.

Good to know

Medellín is called the 'City of Eternal Spring' because of its mild climate all year. The Flower Festival in August brings parades of flower arrangements carried on people's backs.

Guatapé is a popular day trip. Stay alert in crowded places and use ride-hailing apps at night.
