Dublin, Ireland's capital on the River Liffey, is a lively, friendly city famous for its pubs, its writers and its music. Georgian squares, historic colleges and the Guinness Storehouse are all within walking distance.

The center

Trinity College holds the Book of Kells and its magnificent Long Room library. Grafton Street, a pedestrian shopping street with buskers, leads to St Stephen's Green. Temple Bar, by the river, is the busiest pub area.

History and Guinness

Dublin Castle and Christ Church Cathedral date back to medieval times. The Guinness Storehouse ends with a pint in a rooftop bar with views over the city. The Ha'penny Bridge crosses the Liffey.

A day in Dublin

Start at Trinity College to see the Book of Kells and the Long Room library, then walk down Grafton Street, where buskers play, to St Stephen's Green. Visit the National Museum of Archaeology for its Viking and Celtic treasures.

In the afternoon, cross the Ha'penny Bridge to the north side, or head to the Guinness Storehouse for the rooftop view. In the evening, Temple Bar is lively, but the traditional pubs a few streets away offer a more local atmosphere and live music.

Good to know

Dublin's center is compact and easy to walk. The DART train runs along the coast to seaside villages like Howth and Dalkey.

The weather changes quickly, so carry a light rain jacket. St. Patrick's Day in March is the biggest celebration of the year.
