Rincón, on Puerto Rico's west coast, is a relaxed surf town famous for its winter waves and spectacular sunsets over the Caribbean.

Surf and sunsets

Domes Beach and Maria's Beach are known for big winter swells. The Punta Higuera lighthouse is a great spot for sunsets and, in winter, humpback whale watching.

The coast

Steps Beach has snorkeling in a marine reserve. The town has beach bars and a small central plaza.

A day in Rincón

Rincón is a laid-back surf town on the west coast. In the morning, watch surfers at Domes and Tres Palmas, or snorkel at Steps Beach in calmer months. Visit the Punta Higüero lighthouse, a great spot for whale watching in winter.

In the evening, everyone gathers to watch the sunset over the Caribbean.

Good to know

The surf season runs from October to April, when big swells arrive. In summer, the sea is calm.

Humpback whales pass from January to March.
