Eilat, at Israel's southern tip on the Red Sea, is a sunny resort town between desert mountains and coral reefs. It is popular for diving, snorkeling and winter sunshine.

The sea

The Coral Beach Nature Reserve protects a reef right off the shore, perfect for snorkeling. The Underwater Observatory Marine Park lets visitors see fish and corals without getting wet. Dolphin Reef offers encounters with dolphins.

Town and desert

The promenade around the marina is lined with hotels, shops and restaurants. Timna Park, north of the city, has ancient copper mines and red rock formations.

A day in Eilat

Snorkel or dive at the Coral Beach Nature Reserve, where reefs lie just a few meters from the shore. Visit the Underwater Observatory Marine Park to see sharks and colorful fish from below the surface.

In the afternoon, explore the desert around Eilat: Timna Park has red sandstone formations and ancient copper mines, and the Red Canyon is a short, beautiful hike.

Good to know

Eilat sits at the northern tip of the Gulf of Aqaba, with Jordan and Egypt visible across the water. It has sunshine almost all year, and winter is the best season, as summers are very hot.

Eilat is a VAT-free zone, so shopping is cheaper. Dolphin Reef allows visitors to watch and swim with dolphins.
