Tel Aviv is a lively Mediterranean city of beaches, cafés and nightlife. Its 'White City', with thousands of Bauhaus buildings, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the ancient port of Jaffa lies at its southern end.

The beach and the White City

A long promenade runs along the city's beaches, busy with joggers, cyclists and people playing matkot, a beach paddle game. Rothschild Boulevard and the streets around it are lined with white Bauhaus buildings from the 1930s.

Jaffa and markets

Old Jaffa has stone lanes, a clock tower, a flea market and a harbor with sea views. The Carmel Market is the city's busiest market, and the Neve Tzedek neighborhood has charming streets and boutiques.

A day in Tel Aviv

Start the morning on the beach promenade, which runs for kilometers from the old port in the north to Jaffa in the south, with joggers, cyclists and beach volleyball along the way. Then explore the White City, a UNESCO-listed collection of more than 4,000 Bauhaus buildings, especially around Rothschild Boulevard and Dizengoff Square.

At lunchtime, browse the Carmel Market for hummus, fresh juice and pastries, then walk to Neve Tzedek, the city's first neighborhood outside Jaffa. End the day in old Jaffa, watching the sunset over the sea from the hill by St. Peter's Church.

Good to know

Tel Aviv is known as 'the city that never sleeps', with a buzzing nightlife and café culture. Unlike Jerusalem, it stays active on Shabbat, although public transport is limited.

Bike-share and electric scooters are an easy way to get around the flat city. Summers are hot and humid; spring and autumn are perfect for the beach.
